![]() It works real quick, less than a minute usually for me. They also sell paint and varnish, and in that department I found a product called "Bass Darkening Solution" It is distributed by a company called WSI Distributors, located in St. So what I use was purchased at a local Wood Working store. BUY/SELL: Used Drums for Sale, Wanted, etc.A Google search for "How to Blacken Brass" will get you started, but finding the ingredients could be a problem.*** Gifts for Drummers & All Musicians! ***.Got a full mic'd rehearsal tomorrow night, gonna bring this bad boy and see how it sounds through the FOH PA system! Very nice loud cutting crack, but not abrasive (if that makes sense) especially when using rim shots. one part of it is flanged to the point that I can't get a drum key over the tension rod if the rim is not seated in a particular way. Even more of a concern for me than that is the flanged batter side rim. I changed out the batter head and slightly dipped the tension rods in Vaseline. Similar to your experience, the tension rods seem a little rough. I (cautiously) used acetone to remove the stubborn residual adhesive from the shell. I still had the cutout from a bass drum reso port hole that I used to pry the plate off. But, there is also an adhesive on the back of it holding it to the shell. There are small bolts and nuts fastening it to the shell. The gold plate makes it look ugly and cheap IMO. they should have made it chrome to match the rest of the HW. I think that is the worst part of that snare. Took it home and removed the gold 'BOB' plate. The online MAP price for this snare is $289. Much to my surprise the snare was already tuned very well and I was surprised beyond my expectations of how good this snare sounded.even with the stock heads! I don't think any videos I watched captured the true sound. I took my snare case, a head and a drum key to spend some time in the store. I discovered my local GC had one in stock. Not meaning to hijack your thread, but I actually pulled the trigger last week on one of these bad boys. My only reference was listening to several videos online of this snare, as well as the Worldmax equivalent (same shell). I had been on the fence for a long time about getting one of these. Interested to hear your follow up with PP (mentioned in another thread?). I know this drum sounds good by the other 2 I have heard and played but I have no confidence that this particular one will hold tuning or not have to have all new lugs and rods replaced in a year or 2. I have only heard good things about Pork Pie so I am really hoping this is not the norm. Nice looking drum and I really want to play it but this is ridiculous. I did not bother with the snare side at all. ![]() I did not even hit it, I will bring it in to the local GC and either take the one they had on the shelf or wait AGAIN for a new one. I then started putting the lugs back in and about half go in by hand and a few I get about a thread or 2 into and no matter how I manipulate it I had to use a key to get it down flush to the rim, which should only require fingers. No way you can spin the head around when it's sitting flush on the drum with no rim on. I tried to put the reso back on and had to force it due to the drum being out of round (yes I did try another head as well). I don't mind a lil warp but this is alittle too much for my liking. I got the reso head off and checked the drum for flatness and it's not even close. Half the lugs are very very tight and fought all the way out. ![]() Well very disappointed, I waited all this time, finally got it today and could barely get the reso head off. I am telling ya if you have never tried this snare I would highly recommend that you do, it sounds like one of those ridiculously priced snares you always hear about for less than half the ridiculous price. The price was $269 so I left thinking about the $75 gift card I had in my wallet and went home to read up on it.While reading up on it I found it at another online store for $206, the local matched the price so minus my $75 gift card I paid $131 for the snare.Only down side is I have to wait till the end of March to get it as it's on back order. Thing has so much articulation, I tuned it high and it was awesome, down low it was so fat thunderous. But I as I was testing those 2 they also had a Pork Pie Big Black Brass with tub lugs 14 x 6.5 and it was outstanding. No annoying snare buzz and the overtone was hardly noticeable it was there but very short sustain which is perfect for me.I poppped it a few times and the sound was sooo nice, I then did a few rolls up at 12 o clock and down to the center and I think I drooled on it a lil. While at the local store today I was playing the pork pie patina I been reading about and the luddie supralite (edge goes to patina IMO but both were decent). ![]()
